Lone Star Havanese Club

How it all started

The Lone Star Havanese Club began as nothing more than a "wouldn't this be a great idea" sort of thought in the minds of several local Havanese fanciers in Texas. After deciding to pursue this idea, we met for dinner in July, 2002 following both the San Antonio river Center shows as well as the Houston Reliant Center Cluster. From those two dinners emerged the charter members of the Lone Star Havanese Club - Cherie Belcher, Susan Carrington, Carol Hutton, Joan Little, Eileen Santman, Jeri Strain and Jane Vollers.

We first focused on developing our constitution, by-laws and code of ethics. After electing our initial board of directors and officers, we requested recognition from our parent club, the Havanese Club of America, so we could function under their "umbrella". That recognition was granted in the fall of 2002 and we proceeded to organize our first regional Specialty Show in conjunction with the Toy Dog Club of Central Oklahoma shows in May, 2003. The original HCA Show Events Chair and Dr. Roger Pritchard provided the club with expert guidance and our first ever regional show was declared a resounding success by all in attendance!

LSHC hosted the HCA National Specialty held in Houston in 2004. Since then there has been some growing pains as Texas is a big state!! There is a club in the Dallas area - Red River Havanese Club.  If you are interested in joining the LSHC, please visit the membership section of this website. We'd love to have you join the fun!
